You need a digital passport-style photo (JPEG, square, plain white or light background, eyes open, no spectacles, between 10 KB and 1 MB), a scan of your passport bio page (PDF, 10 KB–300 KB, with at least six months validity and two blank pages), your travel details, a return or onward ticket, and your accommodation details.
The photo must be a square JPEG on a white or light background with eyes open and no glasses, sized between 10 KB and 1 MB. The passport bio-page scan must be a PDF between 10 KB and 300 KB. Getting these formats wrong is the most common reason an e-Visa application is held up.
Apply at least four days before travel — and ideally one to two weeks ahead — to allow for processing and any clarification requests. The e-Visa is emailed to you once approved.
A business e-Visa needs a business letter or invitation from the Indian company you are visiting. A medical e-Visa needs a letter from the Indian hospital. Tourist e-Visas only need the core set.
