West Midlands

Birmingham is the beating heart of Britain's second-largest Indian community, anchored by Punjabi-Sikh Handsworth, Gujarati Smethwick and the mixed Hindu-Muslim corridor of Sparkbrook and Sparkhill. The VFS centre at 28 Hagley Road is a 10-minute drive from Five Ways and walkable from Edgbaston Reservoir. Most clients reach us in under 25 minutes from anywhere inside the M5 ring, including Wolverhampton, Walsall and Solihull. We hand-deliver biometrics-day documents to Hagley Road and turn around forgotten papers from Soho Road, the Stratford Road or Bearwood the same morning.

Cape Hill and Bearwood Road host long-established Sikh and Gujarati families. Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick on High Street is one of the largest in the Midlands. High concentration of Patidar Gujarati households around Cape Hill.
Stratford Road runs through the Balti Triangle — mixed Indian, Pakistani, Kashmiri and Bangladeshi community. Strong demand for Indian visa and renunciation services from second-generation residents.

Open in MapsVFS is at 28 Hagley Road, B16 8PE — on the south side of Hagley Road just past the Five Ways roundabout heading out of the city. The 9, X8, X10 and X11 buses all stop within 100 metres. From New Street it's a £6 Uber or 15-minute bus ride.
Drive. Hagley Road has limited but workable street parking and the M6/M5 from Walsall or Wolverhampton is ~30 minutes. New Street is busy and you would still need a 15-minute bus or taxi at the Birmingham end.
Yes. Snappy Snaps Five Ways (Broad Street) is 8 minutes' walk and does the 51×51 mm Indian government format. There are also several Asian photo studios on Soho Road in Handsworth (10-min drive) that specialise in OCI/passport prints with the correct white-background crop.
OCI applications must be filed in the country where you ordinarily reside, so a visitor on a 6-month visa cannot apply from Birmingham. Once they have UK indefinite leave to remain or naturalise, we can process the OCI application from Hagley Road with biometrics in person.
Apply as soon as you have the British passport. Many Handsworth and Smethwick families wait until their child's first trip to India and then panic-apply. The VFS Birmingham minor-OCI route is about 4-6 weeks end-to-end if documents are clean.
No. VFS Hagley Road operates Monday to Friday, 08:00–14:00 only. Take the early-morning slot if you have a regular weekday job — most appointments before 09:30 finish in under 45 minutes.
Yes. We handle FCDO apostille and Indian High Commission attestation for Punjab, Gujarat and Haryana state documents — birth, marriage and education certificates — with documents collected from anywhere in the West Midlands.

Got a new passport and already hold an OCI card? From Birmingham in 2026 the OCI must be re-linked through the e-OCI portal — and an un-updated card can mean being turned away at the airport. Here is the honest Birmingham-specific walkthrough — the re-link, the 3-month rule, and when to hand it to us.

Doing the two as a bundle saves a second trip to the Birmingham VFS. Here is the Leicester-specific walkthrough: why surrender comes first, bundle vs piecemeal, and where applications quietly die.
